When should I use IMAP?

Should I use IMAP or POP3 for my email connection? I have this question.

The quick answer would be: ALWAYS USE IMAP ON ALL YOUR DEVICES

IMAP is the preferred protocol for accessing your email. Basically, because it allows you to keep all your devices synchronized with your email account.

How does email synchronization help you?

Simple. When you read your email on your phone, any action you take extends to all devices where you have that account installed.

Imagine you read an email on your phone and delete it. When you get to your computer or tablet, that email will have disappeared.

When you send an email from your tablet, the sent message will also appear in the sent folder on your phone and computer.

No matter what you do or where you do it. All your devices will show the same information.

What should you never do?

Mix protocols. Never install POP3 on one device and IMAP on another, because you will immediately start losing messages and lose all synchronization between devices. That's why our recommendation is to install IMAP on all your devices.

What can you do with IMAP?

IMAP is suitable for businesses that need greater flexibility and control over their email. With IMAP, users can create and manage custom folders, mark messages as read or unread, and delete messages directly from the mail server.

In general, IMAP is a good option for businesses that need to access their email accounts from multiple devices and different locations and need greater control and flexibility over their email.
