The keys to a successful transfer
Most failed or delayed transfers happen because one of these conditions is not met. Get them ready at your current registrar first — the transfer itself then usually completes in 5 to 7 days.
Unlock the domain
Registrar transfer lock (also called "domain lock" or "registrar-lock") must be disabled at your current provider. While it is on, transfers are blocked by design. You can usually switch it off in their control panel.
Get the EPP / Auth code
The authorisation code (EPP code or "transfer key") proves you own the domain. Request it from your current registrar and keep it to hand — we will ask for it to authorise the transfer.
Check the contact email is valid
The transfer is confirmed by email sent to the registrant or admin contact on file. Make sure that address is one you can receive mail at; otherwise the confirmation will fail silently.
Wait out the 60-day window
Domains cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration, a previous transfer, or a change to the registrant data. If your domain was just registered or modified, wait for the window to pass.
Make sure it is not expired
An expired or suspended domain usually cannot be transferred. Renew it first at your current registrar if needed, then start the transfer. Some extensions also block transfers close to the expiry date.

Which domains can be transferred?
You can transfer almost any generic extension and most country-code domains, as long as the transfer conditions are met. Some extensions have special registry rules.

Common questions
Will my website or email stop working during the transfer?
No. The transfer moves the registration between registrars; it does not change where your DNS is hosted. As long as your nameservers stay pointed at your hosting, your website and email keep working throughout the process.
Do I lose the time I have already paid for?
No. A transfer adds one year to your current registration on top of the time you already have. For example, if your domain had six months left, after the transfer it will have one year and six months.
How long does a transfer take?
For most generic extensions (.com, .net, .org and similar), the transfer completes within 5 to 7 days once you confirm the email. Some country-code extensions can be faster or slower depending on their registry.
What is an EPP code and where do I find it?
The EPP code (also called authorisation code, auth code or transfer key) is a password that proves you are authorised to transfer the domain. You request it from your current registrar, usually in the domain settings of their control panel or by contacting their support.
My transfer failed — what went wrong?
The most common reasons are: the domain is locked, the EPP code is wrong, the confirmation email was not approved, the domain is within 60 days of registration or a change, or it has expired. Check the keys to a successful transfer above and resolve the relevant item at your current registrar, then retry.
Can I transfer a domain that is about to expire?
If it is still active, yes — but do not leave it to the last moment. Many registries block transfers in the final days before expiry. If it has already expired or is suspended, you usually need to renew it at your current registrar first, then transfer it afterwards.
How much does a transfer cost?
The transfer fee is the same as a one-year renewal for your extension, and it includes the extra year added to your registration. There are no hidden transfer charges — you see the exact price for your domain before confirming.
