IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
It is a communications protocol for receiving email.
IMAP is compatible with most current email clients.
The advantages of IMAP are:
- You can access your email from different devices at the same time
- Email is stored on the server.
- You can create an IMAP directory structure to keep your email organized at all times
IMAP therefore replaces POP3 as the communications protocol for reading email.
Why is IMAP better to use?
The IMAP protocol allows you to read email from many devices, keeping all of them synchronized. This way, when you check your phone, tablet or computer, all your different devices show the same email at all times.
Don't mix POP3 with IMAP
Mixing POP3 and IMAP can only create chaos. If you use multiple devices to read your email, make sure they all use IMAP.
