What is a backup copy?

What is a backup? Learn this basic security concept and why it matters.

A backup is a copy of your data. Creating backups adds security to your information and helps prevent accidental loss for many different reasons.

Why is data lost?

Basically because of two common situations:

  1. Human error. We all make mistakes. We delete something we did not mean to delete or change something and later realize the previous version was better. Backups keep those mistakes from becoming expensive.
  2. Hardware failure. Impossible to predict perfectly. From time to time, disks fail and the damage can be severe. Without a backup, everything may be lost.

What is an incremental backup?

At Bacan we create incremental backups every weekend. This helps ensure proper system operation and strong data protection. An incremental backup is precise and fast because from one week to the next it copies only the data that changed, instead of duplicating unchanged information.

Scheduling backups

One of the most important parts of a successful backup strategy is scheduling, which means making sure backups happen every time they should.

When backups depend entirely on a person, they are often created sometimes and forgotten other times. Our backups are handled by automated systems, whose only task is to create them when required, reducing human error and keeping an updated copy of your data every weekend.
