Backups: double protection for your website

Do not leave your website to chance. Learn why and how to complement our automatic backups with your own backup strategy.

Your personal safety net

At Bacan.com, the security of your data is one of our priorities. That is why we perform automatic backup copies regularly across our hosting plans. The goal is to support quick recovery of services in case of a large failure or infrastructure-level problem.

Even so, for complete protection and real peace of mind, we always recommend that users also maintain their own backup strategy. This is not redundant. It is your personal safety net.

The key difference: our backup vs your backup

Our automatic backups help protect against hardware failure or major server problems. They are the first line of defense at infrastructure level.

Your own backup, on the other hand, protects you against situations that are under your direct control:

Scenario Who covers it best?
Your own accidental mistake Your backup such as deleting an important file or uploading an incomplete version.
Failed update Your backup for example when a WordPress update breaks the website.
Targeted attack Your backup if malware affects only your website, not the full server.
Major infrastructure failure Our backup such as a server disk or hardware problem.

Conclusion: you need both

If your website stops working because of your own code change or a failed update, the fastest solution is often restoring a copy that you saved yourself just before the problem appeared.

How to build your own backup strategy

Whether you manage your website through DirectAdmin or cPanel, the keys are consistency and safe storage.

1. Decide what to back up

Make sure you include all critical parts of the website:

  • Website files: code, images, scripts, and other content.

  • Databases: essential if you use WordPress, Joomla, or another CMS.

2. Set a realistic frequency

  • Dynamic websites such as blogs or stores should be backed up weekly or even daily if they change constantly.

  • Static websites can often work well with monthly backups or a new backup each time you make an important change.

3. Store your backup outside the server

This is one of the most important security rules:

  • Never keep your personal backup only on the same server where the website is hosted. If the server fails or is compromised, you could lose both.

  • Use secure external storage such as cloud services or an external hard drive so you can access the copy independently of the hosting environment.

Pro tip: follow the 3-2-1 rule. Keep 3 copies of your data, on at least 2 different types of storage, and make sure 1 of those copies is off-site.

Key points

  • Bacan.com creates backups for infrastructure-level protection.

  • You should create backups to protect yourself from your own mistakes or issues affecting only your website.

  • Build your strategy around frequency and critical data.

  • Store the copy outside the server for a true safety net.
