What is a subdomain? Can I have subdomains on my hosting?

I need subdomains on my hosting. Are they available? How many can I have? How are they set up? Is there an extra charge for adding subdomains?

www.domain.com is a domain name. A subdomain is any name that replaces "www" — for example, mail.yahoo.com is a subdomain.

While not the most technical explanation, it is one that all our clients can understand. Let us answer a few more common questions.

Can I have subdomains at Bacan?

Yes, absolutely. All our clients can create as many subdomains as they need.

What are subdomains used for?

In general, subdomains provide quick access to different sections of your website. Some common subdomains are (examples):

mail.domain.com — directs to the domain's webmail

support.domain.com — support section of the domain

clients.domain.com — section specifically created for customers

etc...

What information do I need to create a subdomain?

  1. The name of the subdomain.
  2. The folder that will contain the content the subdomain will display.

How do I set up a subdomain?

Log in to your control panel. In the domains section, you will find the subdomains subsection.

How many subdomains can I install?

As many as you need. We do not set a limit.
