Can't send email – Outlook Express

In this video tutorial, we explain the reasons why you might not be able to send email.

Video transcript:

If you use Outlook Express and can't send email, follow these instructions carefully. We're going to review your email account settings.

First, open Outlook Express.

Second, go to 'Tools'.

Third, enter the 'Accounts' option. A window will open with the accounts you have installed. There may be several, so you'll have to do the same for each account where you have trouble sending.

Fourth, click the 'Properties' button for the account you want to review.

Fifth, go to the 'Servers' tab.

Sixth, look at the last section which says 'Outgoing mail server'. The option 'My server requires authentication' must be checked.

Seventh, click the 'Settings' button. A window will open giving us two options. Select the option 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' and accept the changes.

Eighth, go to the 'Advanced' tab. Here, make sure you're using port 26 where it says 'Outgoing mail'. Also make sure that the field 'This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)' is not checked.

Now accept all changes and you can start sending email immediately.
