If you already have hosting at Bacan.com and a domain (either with us or another provider), you may be wondering: how do I point my domain to my hosting? Here's a clear step-by-step explanation.
🧭 What does "pointing a domain to hosting" mean?
It means connecting your domain to your hosting account so that when someone types your domain, they see the website hosted on your server. This is done by changing the DNS servers or by pointing via an A record (IP address) from wherever your domain is registered.
✅ Option 1: Change the DNS servers (recommended)
Ideal if you want to manage everything from your hosting panel (DirectAdmin or cPanel) and also want to use emails, subdomains, redirects, etc.
1. Log in to the panel where you registered your domain
Example: if you bought the domain with us, log in to your client area at Bacan.com.
2. Find the option to modify DNS servers
It usually appears as "Nameservers", "DNS Servers" or "DNS".
3. Replace the current values with your hosting's DNS
To find Bacan's DNS, check your hosting welcome email or contact our support team.
4. Save the changes
Wait between 1 and 24 hours for the DNS to propagate. Done! Your domain will be pointing to your hosting.
🔄 Option 2: Point only via IP address (A record)
Useful if you prefer to keep the DNS where you bought the domain, but want the site to load from our hosting.
1. Get your hosting's IP address
You'll find it in your DirectAdmin or cPanel panel, or in your activation email. Example: 123.456.78.90
2. Go to the DNS panel where your domain is registered
3. Find the A record for your main domain (e.g. @ or yourdomain.com)
4. Modify the A record and enter your hosting's IP
You can also add an A record for www if it doesn't exist, pointing to the same IP.
5. Save and wait for propagation (up to 24 hours)
🎯 Practical tips
Always verify if the domain is pointing correctly using tools like https://dnschecker.org
After making the change, clear your browser cache to see the changes.
If you use external email services like Gmail or Outlook, be careful! Changing DNS can affect your emails. In that case, it's better to use option 2 or reconfigure your MX records.
