Why can't you add DNS records without hosting?
Many users ask us whether it's possible to add or modify DNS records without an active hosting plan. The short answer is no, it's not possible — at least not directly from the control panel if your domain isn't pointing to servers with a manageable DNS zone.
This is because DNS records depend on having an active DNS zone, and that zone is normally created and managed from your hosting account (such as cPanel or DirectAdmin).
What do you need to be able to manage DNS?
An active hosting plan with Bacan.com
This gives you access to your control panel (DirectAdmin or cPanel), from which you can manage all DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.).Or an active external DNS zone
If you don't want to sign up for hosting, you can use an external DNS service that lets you manage records. In that case, you'll need to point your domain to the nameservers of that external provider.
Alternatives if you don't want to sign up for hosting
💡 Do you just need to validate a domain, configure email or point to another server?
These are your options:
Sign up for a basic hosting plan: Ideal if you want complete control over your domain from your Bacan.com client account.
Sign up for our DNS service: This doesn't give you hosting access, but you can create the records you need.
Use an external DNS provider: Some free services allow you to create DNS zones without associated hosting. You'll then need to change your domain's nameservers to point to that provider.
Don't forget
You can't add DNS records without an active DNS zone, and for that you need hosting or an external DNS service. If you're not sure which option to choose, our support team is ready to help you find the most appropriate solution. ✅
