What is the EPP code used for?
The EPP code is a security measure in the domain registration system. Its function is to ensure that only the legitimate domain owner can authorize its transfer to another registrar. Without this code, no one can move the domain without your permission.
When do you need the EPP code?
You need the EPP code exclusively when you want to transfer your domain from one registrar to another, for example:
- Changing registrar while keeping the same domain.
- Bringing a domain you have registered with another provider to Bacan.
- Moving the domain to another provider when changing hosting.
How to obtain the EPP code?
- Access the control panel or customer area of your current registrar (where the domain is registered).
- Look for the domain management section or "domain transfer" section.
- Request or view the EPP code/Auth-Code. Some registrars send it automatically to the domain holder's email.
At Bacan, you can request the EPP code from the customer area in the domain management section.
Important things to keep in mind
- The domain must be unlocked (without the transfer lock enabled) in order to transfer. This lock is usually called "Registrar Lock" or "Transfer Lock" and is activated by default for security.
- The EPP code has a limited validity (normally several days). If it expires before you use it, you will need to request a new one.
- Domain transfers have a waiting period of 5 to 7 days, during which the current registrar can cancel the transfer.
- Recently registered or renewed domains cannot be transferred (there is a 60-day lock period).
