Transfer your domain to Bacan without losing your website ✅

Before You Buy

We'd love to welcome you! Transferring a website may seem like an overwhelming process, but if you follow the right order, it's a smooth and fast transition. In this guide you'll learn the three ways to do it depending on what you need to move, ensuring your emails and files arrive intact at their new home.

What do you need to transfer? 🛠️

Depending on your goal, the process varies. Choose the option that best fits your case:

1. Hosting only

If you want to keep your domain where it currently is, but want the power of our servers:

  1. Backup: First of all, make a backup of your files and databases from your current provider.

  2. Sign up for your plan: Choose the Bacan plan you prefer.

  3. Configure your emails: Access your new panel via the IP we'll provide and create the email accounts so they're ready before the switch.

  4. Change the DNS: Log in to your domain panel and point to our DNS:

    • ns1.bacan.com
    • ns2.bacan.com

  5. Upload your website: Install your files and databases on our server.

💡 Note: This process usually completes in about 2 or 3 hours and your website will already be running with us.

2. Domain registration only

If you already have hosting with us (or elsewhere) and just want us to manage your domain and billing:

  1. Unlock the domain: At your current provider, make sure the status is "Active" or "Unlocked."

  2. Get the EPP code: Request the transfer code (also called Auth-Code) from your current registrar.

  3. Start the transfer: Request the transfer from the Bacan website.

  4. Confirm the email: You'll receive a confirmation email. It's vital that you accept it, otherwise the transfer will be cancelled.

3. Hosting and Domain (Full transfer)

To move everything and centralize your services with us, the order matters. Follow this order to avoid your website going down:

  • First, transfer the Hosting: Follow the steps in Option 1. This way, when you change the DNS, the website will already be ready on our servers.

  • Second, transfer the Domain: Once the website is loading from Bacan, start the registration transfer process (Option 2).

Tips for a successful move 💡

  • Patience is key: DNS changes can take between 2 and 24 hours to propagate worldwide.

  • Email accounts: Always create email accounts at Bacan before changing the DNS so you don't lose any incoming messages during the switch.

  • Support available: If you feel lost at any step, our technical team is ready to guide you.

What you shouldn't forget 📌

  • Backup first: Always have a copy of your files at hand before starting.

  • The Auth-Code: It's essential for moving any .com, .net, or other global extension domain.

  • Email confirmation: Without your approval click on the email you receive, the domain won't move.

  • Logical order: If you move everything, hosting always goes first to guarantee your website doesn't stop working.
